The Western Australian Parliament is made up of two Houses:

• The Legislative Assembly, or Lower House (59 members from single member electorates).
• The Legislative Council, or Upper House (36 members from 6 regional electorates).

The Government of the day is formed by the political party with most members in the Lower House.

The Legislative Council reviews government bills, scrutinises government activity and debates the important issues of the day.
